Evaluation 4

4. How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages? The first shot in my music video is a good example of where I have used media technologies in the construction of my music video. Below are some examples of how I used i-movie in this particular shot to aid the construction of the video. These first two screen grabs show how I have reversed the shot and changed the pace of the video.

These next two screen grabs show how I have changed the brightness and contrast of the video.

My animatic (see below) is a good example of how I have used media technologies in the planning of my music video. I decided to make an animatic because it allowed me to get an idea of how the final product would look. As well as this it made me think about whether the shots I'd drawn on my storyboard looked good to the music. It also helped me when editing because I was able to work out the timings for most of my shots from the animatic.

My blog is also a good example of how I used media technologies in my research and evaluation. I was able to easily refer back to my planning at any point durign the production of my music video or ancillary tasks. When evaluating I also was able to refer back to any point of my project.

Evaluation 3

3. What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Overall the feedback from Facebook and YouTube was positive, however one comment on YouTube highlighted a shaky shot at 1:16. I agreed that there was too much unwanted movement in the shot so I replaced it with a smooth pan of the same location. I feel this change has tightened the quality of my video.

Evaluation 2

2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Evaluation 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Above is a screen grab from my music video and one from a music video for a song by Atmosphere. The close up of the rapper's face is similar in both shots. The choice of image and dark lighting creates a mysterious ambiance around the rapper. Above shots are chosen to show how my music video compares with a music video for a song by Jay Z. Both shots show the characters in solitary contemplation, while staring dramatically towards the cityscape in the distance. The shots are over shoulder and don't show the complete face of the characters, making the nature of their contemplation unknown to the viewer.

These two photos, one from my music video and one from a music video for a song by 50 Cent, show how my Hip Hop music video breaks the convention of including a "Hip Hop Honey" in it. Instead I decided to go for good narrative over a sexist performance video. This is in line with the music itself - Underground Hip Hop - which sets out to challenge the mainstream themes of rap: guns, money, women and violence.

Poster research

This poster uses the album artwork as its main image. This creates a brand identity, making the viewer relate the poster to the album and vice versa. The image is a portrait of a friend of the band during a night out. The effect of the image is that it makes the viewer judge the person on the poster for smoking and looking spaced out. This then leads back to the name of the album"Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" contradicting the viewer's likely opinion of him.

The date of release (in this case it has already been released) and album name are situated on the top of the page in a simple, yet clear, font. The name of the band and miscellaneous information is situated at the bottom. This layout makes the image in the middle the main focus. However, the black and white colour scheme gives some emphasis to the writing due to the bold whitness of the text.
